{"id":3269,"date":"2021-10-22T12:10:28","date_gmt":"2021-10-22T10:10:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/?p=3269"},"modified":"2021-10-22T12:10:28","modified_gmt":"2021-10-22T10:10:28","slug":"covid-19-effects-on-european-youth-employment-and-neets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/covid-19-effects-on-european-youth-employment-and-neets\/","title":{"rendered":"Covid-19 Effects on European Youth: Employment and NEETs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/committees\/en\/empl\/home\/highlights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>committee on Employment and Social Affairs<\/strong><\/a> (EMPL), part of the European Parliament, has just published a fresh new study on the state-of-the-art of <strong>the Covid-19 pandemic&#8217;s effects toward European youth<\/strong>, taking into consideration the employment status and the NEETs phenomenon.<\/p>\n<h3>Covid-19 Effects on Youth Employment<\/h3>\n<p>The study is an analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on young people, providing up-to-date information on their economic and social situation, with a focus on employment.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3270 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/corona-4983590_1920-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"covid effects on youth\" width=\"696\" height=\"464\" srcset=\"https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/corona-4983590_1920-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/corona-4983590_1920-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/corona-4983590_1920-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/corona-4983590_1920-1-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/corona-4983590_1920-1-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/corona-4983590_1920-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/corona-4983590_1920-1-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/corona-4983590_1920-1-630x420.jpg 630w, https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/corona-4983590_1920-1.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Young people have particularly felt the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in terms of employment, education, training and mental well-being.<\/p>\n<p>The vulnerability of young people comes either from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>temporary contracts of employment, or<\/li>\n<li>working in the most affected sectors, such as retail, hospitality and tourism.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Moreover, the effects of Covid-19 were not limited to employment and in spreading the NEET phenomenon, as they hit also the school and education sectors, because of closures and restrictions over training opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>The study analyses the effects of COVID-19 on youth unemployment, inactivity, social exclusion, work-based learning and mental health, plus NEETs generation. The analysis goes on the basis of quantitative indicators and qualitative information from policy documents. It discusses the probability of longer-term &#8220;scarring effects&#8221; comparing the impact of the current crisis to impacts observed during and in the aftermath of the global financial crisis in 2008\/2009.<\/p>\n<h3>Key Results<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Youth employment and unemployment rates developed in waves reflecting lockdown and containment periods<\/strong>.
