{"id":4435,"date":"2023-12-01T10:06:14","date_gmt":"2023-12-01T09:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/?p=4435"},"modified":"2023-12-01T10:06:14","modified_gmt":"2023-12-01T09:06:14","slug":"education-for-environmental-sustainability-eu-actions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/youthnetworks.net\/education-for-environmental-sustainability-eu-actions\/","title":{"rendered":"Education for Environmental Sustainability\u202f | EU Actions"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Introduction<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Involving young people in <strong>caring for the environmental sustainability<\/strong>\u00a0is really important to Europe&#8217;s view on education.<\/p>\n<p>People of all ages should learn how to know more, do better, and care about living in a way that&#8217;s good for the Earth.<\/p>\n<p>This includes using resources wisely, being healthy, and working together to make Europe greener and more sustainable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discover the actions and initiatives<\/strong> that Europe is taking to spread the importance of environmental education among young Europeans.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: var(--td_text_color, #111111); font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 22px;\">The aim of the intiatives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The European Commission aids EU Member States by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Providing learners and educators<\/strong> with the <strong>necessary knowledge<\/strong> and skills for a more sustainable society.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Assisting education institutions<\/strong> in integrating sustainability into teaching, learning, and overall operations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promoting a collective understanding<\/strong> of the significant changes required in education and training to support sustainability and the transition to a greener future.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>What is the EU doing?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The European Commission is <strong>actively involved in developing initiatives<\/strong> to enhance education for a more sustainable future.<\/p>\n<p>Among these initiatives is a proposal for a <strong>Council Recommendation<\/strong> on learning for environmental sustainability. The purpose is to encourage and support Member States in incorporating environmental education into their systems and promoting collaboration on this aspect across the European Union.<\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with this Recommendation, the Commission is in the process of creating a <strong>European Sustainability Competence Framework<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This framework outlines the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes that learners should have to address climate change and contribute to sustainable development. The overarching goal is to establish a shared understanding of these competences, ensuring that everyone agrees on what students at all educational levels should learn to promote eco-friendly practices.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The EU actions about environmental education<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Among the <strong>initiatives promoted by the European Union<\/strong> there are the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?uri=CELEX%3A32022H0627%2801%29\">Council Recommendation on learning for the green transition and sustainable development<\/a>. <\/strong>With this initiative it is possible to actively involve students and staff, local authorities, youth organisations and the research and innovation community in learning for sustainability.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/transparency\/expert-groups-register\/screen\/expert-groups\/consult?lang=en&amp;groupID=3810\">Learning for sustainability working group<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>The European Commission helps put the Recommendation into action through a special group that focuses on sustainability in education. This group has over 40 members, including people from education ministries, social partners, NGOs, and international organizations.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/publications.jrc.ec.europa.eu\/repository\/handle\/JRC128040\">European competence framework on sustainability<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>This framework, available in all official EU languages, can be used in school and training programs, as well as in formal and informal learning environments.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Erasmus+ Teacher academies.\u00a0<\/strong>Erasmus+ Teacher Academies is a key part of the current Erasmus+ program.
